Modern Storm for SCG Dallas

THE LIST

CHANGES

Here for the first time the sideboard remains almost unchanged. The Thing in the Ice plan is still a great way to have an extra angle of attack against the super fast creature decks that now have more graveyard and/or noncreature permanent hate too. Also with the increased graveyard hate, mostly due to the resurgence of dredge, Empty the Warrens has become even better so I have upped the number of copies to 3. This did come at the expense of the 4th Pieces of the puzzle which may seem odd with the increased amount of graveyard hate but now we don’t need to dig as much due to a large Empty being more reliable to kill the opponent than before. This does make us slightly weaker to control though, due to them also increasing the graveyard hate but still having lots of sweepers.

The other change is the addition of the 3rd Electromancer over the Repeal. Maindeck hate permanents such as Leyline of Sanctity and Chalice of the Void are not really around anymore plus humans is on the decline so there is little need for the bounce game 1. The format has speed up a bit though so then the 7th bear was added over another remand. We will get blown out now from time to time though but the added speed more than makes up for it.

    • Agreed, does seem good in this current meta. When to actually flip Thing rarely feels intuitive to me though. It has put me in odd situations at times, almost hindering me from going off vs Burn because it forced me to recast my dork.

  1. Just a few quick questions. First, in your newest lists you’ve been running Ignite Memories, is that just for surgical? I’d assume it is, but wanted to clarify. You also cut TiTi in your top 8 list for the SCG Open, why is that? Did you just expect a meta that was focused on dredge, so TiTi wouldn’t be good? And finally, my local meta has a lot of BGx Thoughtsieze/Goyf decks running around, is it worth it to add a copy or two of Pyro Ascension or is it not worth it? Thanks!
